Upperville, Va. – May 31, 2019 – The 2019 Upperville Colt & Horse Show (UCHS) is pleased to support the United Service Organizations of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (USO-Metro) during this year’s Military Appreciation Day held Saturday, June 8, generously sponsored by Caliburn International. As a nonprofit 501c(3) organization, the USO-Metro is chartered by the U.S. Congress and is dedicated to assisting those that serve in the armed forces and their families in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. The UCHS looks forward to honoring Northern Virginia’s service men and women with a catered dinner reception and waived entry and parking fees for Saturday’s show.

Elaine Rogers, President and CEO of the USO-Metro, said, “It is through the generous financial support of individuals and organizations in the local community, like the UCHS, that USO-Metro is able to fulfill its mission. With the help of thousands of devoted volunteers, USO-Metro provides programs and services for active-duty troops and their families at area military hospitals, five USO centers, four USO airport lounges and a Mobile USO. Signature programs and services include holiday programs like Turkeys for Troops and Project USO Elf, career transition programs, and caring for our wounded, ill and injured troops and their caregivers.”

On Saturday, June 8, the UCHS’ Military Appreciation Day will recognize the efforts of USO-Metro with a presentation of the Color Guard and an Army band performance of the National Anthem. Service men and women and their families will receive waived entry and parking fees as well as a catered dinner reception prior to Saturday’s featured class, the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, sponsored by Salamander Resort & Spa.

The USO-Metro is the largest chapter chartered by the USO, with a strong tradition of service in the National Capital Region (NCR). There are nine locations and a “deployable” Mobile USO that provide signature USO services to the nearly 300,000 military members and their families living in the region and 150,000 people who travel through the local airports. The USO is a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of millions of generous Americans.
