The UCHS staff kicked off 2025 with some social media fun, asking our followers on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), “What is your most favorite thing about Upperville?” As a bonus, we added a contest, entering the name of every person to comment in a drawing for a UCHS Yeti Mug.

The engagement was beyond our expectations and the comments, memories and sentiments were true testaments to the passion we share for Upperville, and the work we do to make our favorite show happen, all year long. Between the three social channels, the “Favorite Things” post received 536 Likes, 49 comments, and 22 shares! We heard from exhibitors, spectators, vendors, and community members. The mug drawing winner was Jane Thery from Washington, DC, whose comment is among the ones we have selected to share below:

Upperville has been my favorite show since I was just a little girl watching McLain (Ward) jump the “Shamu” jump in the grass ring. It’s insane to have the country’s, no wait, the world’s top riders right in my metaphorical front yard right alongside my amateur friends and even friends’ kids on ponies! Community is the best way to sum it up. Upperville is that one place where you have a friend, trainer, idol etc. around every corner.

Upperville is truly one of the most beautiful horse shows in America, filled with nostalgia that takes you back in time.

The trees. If they could only talk, think of the stories they would tell. Never seen another venue that hosts such a community under those spreading branches. Sport. History. View. Friendship. It’s all there.

I’m a local and I’ve waited my whole life to show at Upperville! I was first introduced to horses at the age of 2 at the show and I haven’t missed a year of spectating since. My favorite memories are from the past 3 years being able to show my own horse and also share the experience with my daughter who showed in leadline this year.

Thoroughbred Day is truly unmatched. There’s something incredible about watching a 15-year-old junior rider compete alongside a seasoned professional with over 50 years of experience—and everything in between. What makes it even more special is that these remarkable horses are often enjoying a second chance at greatness after years on the racetrack.
